Congestion of the right nostril. Causes of a runny nose in one nostril

Reasons for the appearance

Such factors can provoke congestion or mucous discharge in only one nostril:

  • curvature of the nasal septum;
  • injury to the nose;
  • polyps and cysts of the mucous membrane;
  • a foreign object in the nasal cavity;
  • hormonal imbalance;
  • vasomotor rhinitis;
  • medication rhinitis, etc.

Curvature and injury of the nasal septum

Various curvatures and injuries of the nose at times prevent air from flowing normally through the respiratory tract. This is one of the most common causes of breathing problems in one nostril.

Deformities of the nasal septum can be both congenital and acquired due to various injuries. Most people from birth have certain disturbances in the symmetry of the structure of the nose, which is an acceptable norm.

But a number of abnormalities lead to serious dysfunctions in the body, malfunctions respiratory system.

If the disease has arisen as a result of a curvature or injury of the nasal septum, most likely, the patient will be recommended a surgical method of treatment. The operation is carried out under the supervision of an ENT doctor. The nasal septum is aligned, which normalizes the patient's air flow.

In addition, the doctor carefully checks it for possible perforations, which can also affect the functioning of the respiratory system. Usually, the patient will notice improvements immediately after surgery.

Usually in the postoperative period drug treatment includes painkillers, vaso-strengthening drugs. After surgery nasal cavity often overdried, so nasal sprays are prescribed to moisturize the mucous membrane.

To prevent the development of infection, antibiotics are prescribed, less often antifungal drugs.

If the swelling does not go away for a long time, injections may be prescribed to relieve it.

Formations of the nasal mucosa

Surgery is recommended for breathing problems caused by polyps and cysts in the mucosa. The causes of their occurrence can be both chronic inflammation of the nasal cavity and dental diseases (inflammation of their roots located next to the nasal sinuses).

In this case, concomitant symptoms of congestion and runny nose are:

  • migraine;
  • frequent colds;
  • phlegm in the throat;
  • loss of smell.

Foreign bodies

There are cases when for many years the cause of nasal congestion was the banal presence of a foreign object in the nose, blocking the normal air flow. A seed, a button or any other small object can get into the nose. Most often, this problem occurs in children.

As soon as the doctor removes the foreign object from the nose, the symptom is eliminated. Ignoring the disease can lead to the degeneration of mucosal tissues, then the process of restoring respiratory function will be longer and less effective.

Most often, a runny nose in one nostril is a typical manifestation of vasomotor rhinitis. This form of the disease is often referred to as “false rhinitis” because the disease is of a non-inflammatory nature, occurs with mucosal edema. It is especially characteristic of this disease that the symptom manifests itself in the supine position: in the patient, it is precisely the nostril towards which the body is turned.

But do not exclude others possible reasons manifestation of a symptom, t. they are quite varied, and their symptoms are similar. The diagnosis should be approached thoroughly and seek help from a specialist.

False rhinitis can occur with abuse vasoconstrictor drops, with hormonal changes in the body, allergic reactions.

As a rule, the disease is treated locally, very rarely an operation is needed to eliminate the damaged blood vessels of the mucous membrane.

For the treatment of vasomotor rhinitis, it is very important to strengthen the patient's immune system, because a weakened immune system contributes to the onset of the disease.

Due to hormonal imbalance during pregnancy, puberty or during menopause, one of the forms of vasomotor rhinitis may also appear. The reason is changes in hormonal levels - an increase in steroid levels. The problem does not require any serious treatment, as soon as the hormonal background stabilizes, the congestion will pass.

Rhinitis medication

Nasal congestion manifests itself with the abuse of vasoconstrictor drops due to addiction of the body. This form of the disease is called rhinitis medicamentosa. To eliminate the symptom, the patient must completely abandon the further use of vasoconstrictor nasal drugs.

Mucosal edema can develop with prolonged use of a number of other drugs: steroid, antihistamines. For help, you should consult an otolaryngologist.

Preventive measures

Remember, failures of the respiratory system are noticeably reflected in the work of other systems of human organs.

Stretching the vital nerve

Stretching the vital nerve is a dynamic asana aimed at developing flexibility. In kundalini yoga, the pose allows you to strengthen the muscles of the buttocks and legs, improve the spine.

Sit on your buttocks, connect your legs and straighten in front of you. Press your knees to the floor and pull your toes towards you. Move the whole body forward, while pointing the buttocks back. Straighten your arms and grasp the big toes of both feet. It is important to place the fingers correctly: the thumbs are pressing against the big toe nails. The middle and index fingers are located below. Stretch your entire body towards your feet, keeping your back straight. Stretch your stomach to your legs, the movement starts from the tailbone, do not try to reach with your head. Hold Jalandhara bandha, tilt your head so that the neck continues the straight line of the spine. The chin is directed towards the chest, the face is looking forward. Bring your shoulder blades together, and focus your eyes on the point between the eyebrows. As you exhale, try to descend as low as possible. As you exhale, rise back.

With a lightweight version, the hands do not grab the toes, but the shins or knees. There is a kind of asana with legs apart.

Shavasana

Shavasana or corpse pose is a very popular static pose. It is used in many practices, including kundalini yoga. The pose allows you to achieve body and mental relaxation, rest after exercise or at the end of a hard day.

To perform the asana, you need to lie on your back, straighten all the limbs, and stretch the spine. The legs are slightly apart, the feet are free. Hands lie along the body without touching it. The palms are relaxed, looking at the sky. The body must be completely relaxed, allowed to return to its natural position.

Concentrating on your breathing will help you get rid of the flickering thoughts in your head. Breathe deeply and slowly with full chest. Relax your face, tongue, feel the tension go away from the internal organs. Calm your senses, clear your head of thoughts. Joints, ligaments, muscles - everything should be free and relaxed.

If you are planning long-term relaxation, wear socks to stay warm, drink some water and cover yourself with a blanket.

Fish pose

The fish pose is a static pose used in kundalini yoga for relaxation and relaxation. Performing the asana helps to stretch the front of the thigh, strengthen the lumbar muscles, and develop the flexibility of the knee joints.

Get on your knees and then lower your buttocks down. At the same time, spread the heels to the sides so that the buttocks are placed on the floor. Now begin to slowly lower yourself back until you lie with your back on the floor. The back should remain flat, creating a natural deflection in the lumbar region. The head touches the floor with the back of the head, the face is turned up. The feet are at the level of the buttocks, the soles are facing the sky. Extend your arms along your torso and place them. The wrists lie in the middle of the sole of the foot. Maintain even deep breathing. Feel how the muscles of the abdomen stretch, the front of the thighs, how the lower back flexes.

The asana helps to relieve tension from the back, which accumulates from long sedentary activities, helps to relax the whole body.

Interpretation of dreams

I think each of us has dreams that we remember for some reason. And we remember them only because these dreams have a certain meaning for us, which is sometimes very difficult to decipher.

Of course, there are many dream books, but is it possible to use the same dream book for different people. It seems to me not. Despite the existence of symbols and their interpretation, the meaning of each specific symbol for different people can have different facets and shades.

There are so-called karmic dreams or dreams that carry information important to the dreamer. As a rule, these are the dreams that we remember. It is for them that there is a special interpretation technique using the Sibolon deck and Tarot Tota. The Simbolon deck is "sharpened" to work with our unconscious and helps to decipher any, even the most confusing dream. Interpretation of dreams very often helps us to realize our place in life and to understand our inner world deeper.

The nasal septum consists of a cartilaginous and bony section, and normally it should be flat, - says Olga Bryantseva, otolaryngologist. - The septum of the nose is bent as a result of injury, but most often this occurs in childhoodwhen the septum grows slightly faster than the bones of the skull and the cartilaginous and bony portions of the septum are curved. In this case, spikes and ridges may form on the partition.

If the septum is bent, if it has spikes and ridges, the air does not pass freely enough and cannot perform all the turbulent eddies necessary for proper breathing, the specialist explains. In addition, as it turns out, the "smart" nose does not allow itself to be overworked and takes a break. There is a concept of the "nasal cycle", when one half of the nose is breathing, and the other is resting at this time: it does not breathe fully, swells, is supplied with blood and thus recovers. During normal breathing, we do not even notice when the halves of the nose take turns making "breaks" for themselves (and this happens about every 20 minutes). But if the septum is curved, it turns out that one half of the nose does not rest, because it constantly does the "work" of the first. This leads to undesirable consequences, warns Olga Bryantseva. One of them is vasomotor manifestations that we feel, for example, when we go to sleep on our side and feel a congestion in the nostril, which is below. But when we turn over on the other side, something seems to move in the nostrils, and the second nostril, which is now down, stops breathing.

But bad breath isn't just about discomfort. Due to the lack of full-fledged nasal breathing, which is compensated for by breathing through the mouth, problems arise with the oropharynx (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis) and upper respiratory tract (tracheitis, bronchitis, bronchial asthma). Most often, the body compensates for the curvature of the septum for some time, but then lingering severe rhinitis begins, and then the operation cannot be avoided.

The operation consists in removing the curved area and restoring the smooth passage of air. Unfortunately, there are no other treatment options, - warns Olga Bryantseva. - It is better to operate on the septum before the age of 35. After 50 years of age, the operation is taken only for serious reasons: by this age, patients already have cardiovascular problems, and doctors assess the degree of risk. But it is not worthwhile to diagnose oneself, let alone treat oneself.

Not only a deviated nasal septum can interfere with normal nasal breathing, but also allergies, polyps, edema of the mucous membrane with inflammatory process... The reason for the difficulty in nasal breathing and the treatment regimen can only be determined by an ENT doctor.
