Coxsackie virus in turkey. Turkish Coxsackie virus: how to protect yourself and your child

We returned on 07/17/17 from the Side Sunrise Park Resort. Coxsackie was definitely there. On the very first day of swimming in the sea, I heard a tanned northerner tell a newly arrived lady with children, like don't let her into the pools, here is Koksaki. Our daughter is exactly 5 years old (she was fulfilling there), in a year or two, when we went, she was very much puzzled in advance by such questions (in the same year we flew from the bay-flounder, without planning, did not even think of something at all, or my daughter already relatively large, not as afraid as before), well, I heard it, could not stand it, swam up, got into the conversation. I found out that her two-year-old baby had severe rashes, in addition to the so-called characteristic stomatitis / herpangins and palms-feet, all the butt and legs were sprinkled (they have been here for a long time, the girl has already recovered, now only the whole family swim in the sea, and the seven-year-old their boy did not get sick. Her son, I think, either earlier just before the appearance of his sister was sick with a related virus, or suffered here too, but in a very mild form without manifestations. Then I saw the girl on the shore, no longer a rash, but all the little ones in spots (residual). Of course, I was upset after this conversation. My husband screamed, only the sea, not a foot in the pools. But our daughter is very stubborn, on the second day of the struggle she began to swim only in the boss, there are children and she has fun there , but for some reason very few and rarely children were found at sea. In general, we were lucky (it would have crawled out for sure), I think that there is immunity, a month before the sea, my daughter suffered an enterovirus (though the beginning was more with intestinal symptoms), but then a hundred climbed matitis, the temperature was kept for a week for sure, and Coxsackie was also an enterovirus, possibly related to him. Or the herpangina, transferred by my daughter at two years old, was caused by the Coxsackie virus (they do not have hand-foot-mouth manifestations for everyone).
At the hotel, I heard the same as mothers did not let the children in, when they very much asked them to go to the pool, where the children's slides, they told them, like you had a temperature of forty after this pool for two days, still want ??? Although ... if it already was, it may not be, it seems to me)))
I asked my husband to write through his watsap to his friend, in the footsteps of whose family we abruptly broke into this hotel (initially in Sochi we had tickets), to ask if their daughter was sick (six months younger than ours)? The answer was positive (they were in June): "Yes, for two days the temperature is high, and the rash is a little on the throat and a little on the hands, in three days everything has passed" ... So ... I should have known earlier .. On the other hand, I would have known earlier, I would not have flown, perhaps, and I liked the rest as a result. Yes, and our daughter did not get sick, thank God!
But in general, if someone once thought with the children, to go, not to go to Turkey, maybe you should not go, if either you are very afraid when the children are sick, or if you are very young (they often have complications, and even then not always ), so as not to blame yourself later if something happens ...
And who, in any case, traveled and plans to continue resting in the south, so why suffer, sooner or later still overload, it seems to me, or maybe without any manifestations or almost without them will do. And this Coxsackie at my friend's somewhere picked up two years ago in the winter of a 9-month-old baby in our suburbs. From where, it would seem? He was sick classically - hand-foot-mouth ... His family sisters are adults, both 18 and 20 years old, there was even no one to bring from the kindergarten-school, maybe from the children's clinic ??? Well, in general, I'm trying to somehow reassure those who are afraid and doubt :)
Sorry for a lot of letters, if that!

Information resources on the Internet about traveling abroad with children are full of reports of outbreaks of the Coxsackie virus in Turkey. Judging by the reviews, during the 2015 holiday season, the territory of Belek was especially famous in this regard. Isolated cases of infection were recorded on the entire southern coast of Turkey - in Kemer, Alania, and other settlements. The peak of infection occurs in August. There are more sick people in those hotels in which it is customary to relax with children. What is this virus, how dangerous and how to protect yourself and your children?

There are many varieties of the Coxsackie virus. There are 2 groups known - A with 23 types and B with 6 types. It is possible to determine the belonging of the virus to a certain group and type only after a laboratory study of the blood taken for analysis.

Coxsackie viruses initiate enterovirus infection, in which pathogens live and multiply in the intestines.

The virus is able to persist for a long time in sewage, swimming pools and reservoirs, feces, on food. Resistant to environmental influences.

Infection occurs through the contact-household way through household items, food and water. Airborne transmission is not excluded in the presence of inflammation in the mouth or respiratory tract, from mother to fetus.

Viruses are highly contagious and quickly create an epidemic situation under unsanitary conditions. It takes 3-6 days from infection to the appearance of the first symptoms.

Coxsackie most often affects children aged 3 to 10 years, less often adults with weakened immune systems, newborns and infants. The disease can be confused with chickenpox, allergies, acute respiratory infections, intestinal poisoning.

Symptoms of Coxsackie infection and options for the course of the disease

In most cases, diseases caused by Coxsackie are benign and end in recovery without serious consequences. Since the virus, after settling into the intestine with the bloodstream, penetrates into any organs and tissues, then clinical manifestations diverse:

  1. Aseptic meningitis. The disease occurs sharply and suddenly. Fever rises, fever appears, delirium and hallucinations are possible, nausea, severe headache and abdominal pain, indomitable vomiting, not associated with food intake. On days 2-3, meningeal syndrome occurs (inability to lower the head forward with pressing the chin to the chest and difficulty in extending the leg bent to 90 ° at the knee and hip joint from the supine position). With such symptoms, hospitalization is required.
  2. Encephalitis and meningoencephalitis. The temperature is normal or in the range of 37 ° -38 ° C for a long time. Muscle tone decreases and flaccid paralysis occurs. The child begins to limp on one leg. Depending on the severity of the course, convulsions, epileptic seizures, speech and swallowing disorders, mental disorders may appear. In most cases, encephalitis ends well after a few weeks. The result may be minor violations of the tone of the limbs.
  3. Enteroviral diarrhea. Symptoms: short-term fever with high body temperature, abdominal pain, loose stools 2 to 7 times a day. In newborns, it is very difficult and can cause death.
  4. Bornholm's disease or epidemic myalgia. Symptoms: severe muscle pain in the back, epigastric and umbilical region, in the chest, aggravated by movement and coughing. The disease lasts from 3 to 7 days.
  5. Herpetic sore throat. Manifested by fever, headache and sore throat. On mucous membranes oral cavity and herpetic vesicles are formed in the throat, later merging into sores. The same blisters or pink spots may appear on the soles of the feet, palms of the hands and buttocks. Symptoms of enteroviral diarrhea are often present. Hemorrhagic conjunctivitis rarely joins. First, one eye becomes inflamed, after 1-3 days the second. Recovery occurs on average after 2 weeks without consequences. respiratory diseases... Characterized by low fever, runny nose, sore throat, and redness back wall throat, dry cough. These external signs are rarely associated with the manifestations of Coxsackie and drug therapy is indicated for ARI.
  6. In any course of the disease caused by Coxsackie viruses, complications such as myocarditis and pericarditis - inflammation of the heart muscle and the serous membrane of the heart - are possible. Manifested by shortness of breath, weakness, heart rhythm disturbances. The liver, lungs, and pancreas may be affected.

Coxsackie treatment

Since the diseases provoked by Coxsackie viral nature, then their treatment with antibiotics is ineffective.

The first thing that needs to be ensured for the sick is the intake of a sufficient volume of fluid. For diarrhea, drink rehydration solution to prevent dehydration and electrolyte loss. The powder for its preparation is available in pharmacies.

You can make a solution from improvised means: for 1 liter of water 1 tbsp. l. baking soda, table salt and 4 tbsp. l. Sahara. For detoxification - sorbents.

In case of high temperature and feeling unwell - antipyretic and pain relievers. Interferons are used to strengthen immunity in the fight against the virus. A doctor's examination of the child is mandatory.

Prevention

Prevention includes measures such as following simple rules - washing hands, vegetables, fruits, boiling water before drinking. Be wary of the so-called "fresh".

During outbreaks of the disease, it is better to drink pasteurized juices. The virus is sensitive to ultraviolet rays from the sun and iodine, so ditch swimming pools in favor of swimming in the sea. Avoid excessive crowds.

Before traveling to Turkey with children, check the epidemiological situation at the selected hotel with your tour operator.

Recently, you can often hear that upon arrival in Turkey on vacation, children catch a Coxsackie infection. And the most unpleasant thing is that parents do not have the opportunity to prove in practice that the child, upon arrival in a foreign country, was not infected with the virus.

Coxsackie virus (English Coxsackievirus) is a few infectious enteroviruses that multiply well in the stomach and intestines of humans. The virus infection was first discovered in the small town of Coxsackie in the United States. Doctors know up to 30 varieties of coxsackie viruses, which are classified into three groups of human enteroviruses: A, B and C. Coxsackie virus provokes one of the main causes of aseptic meningitis.

According to Sergey Tolchin, director of sales for the tour operator company NTK Intourist, Coxsackie's disease lives in the minds of alarmist tourists, and it is spread there by Internet hackers.

“This is 100% stuffing. We have tourists there now resting, employees on vacation - not a single complaint. This is beneficial either to competitors of the direction, or to those who gather audiences at high-profile posts for their groups, ”said Sergey.

By the way, the position of the representative of "NTK Intourist" was supported by other experienced workers of the tourist business, noting that the post "Hand over the vouchers to Turkey" was circulated on the net last year.

Nevertheless, the very fact that there is a possibility of catching the virus in Turkey cannot be disputed. A spokesman for one of the hotels in Side, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that there were indeed cases of the disease in children - about three weeks ago. Children can be infected with the Coxsackie virus in any "children's" hotel in Turkey. So the fewer children in your hotel, the better.

From July 1 to July 10, the insurance employees registered 11 complaints of tourists about a rash on the body, mainly from the Nashira hotel (Side). It should be noted that resorts such as Belek and Kemer, hotels Starlight, Limak Limra, Papillon belvill also appear in the messages of travel agents. A HotLine.travel article on the Coxsackie problem also mentioned a hotel in Side. However, tour operators believe that these are isolated cases and do not panic.

SPECIAL ATTENTION ON: Drinking water (as well as in the pool, where a child can swallow while swimming); Food (extreme heat is not conducive to long-term storage of food); Protect children from exposure to sunlight and heat.

IMPORTANT: Do not confuse the symptoms of an intestinal virus (rotavirus) with those of a cold.

Infectious diseases of the mouth, hands and feet, which occur and are called one group of Coxsackie viruses. The Coxsackie virus was named because of the small sores that develop on the limbs, as well as in the mouth of a person.

In children, this is a common occurrence, who have not yet turned 10 years old, although adults also get the Coxsackie virus.

Symptoms of Coxsackie virus infection: small, small tears, like ulcers, in the baby's mouth, as well as a few can be seen on the arms and legs. Possible spread of infections to the entire leg area as well as to the genitals. Infectious sores in the mouth can cause terrible discomfort such as feeling unwell, fever, pain your throat may be sore and likely to have a fever for two or three days, which will make your diet worse. In children viral symptom coxsacks appear in two to three days.

The virus is most common in children and manifests itself as a rash and peeling of the skin. However, the risk of developing a coxsackie infection is not excluded in adulthood and can lead to many other problems. Symptoms of infection in adults differ and this can be attributed to several reasons.

There are about 29 different species that are classified as "Koksaki". If a person has type A virus, it will most likely manifest itself only as a rash and redness of the skin, but if you encounter type B, everything can be much more serious. Disease of the hands, feet and mouth manifests itself in very different degrees.

The coxsackievirus is most often accompanied by fever. Asymptomatic manifestation infectious disease it is also possible, and its frequency is 9 cases out of 10. Less commonly, the virus can result in more severe forms of diseases such as meningitis, encephalitis, paralysis, myocarditis, pericarditis, diabetes, infectious mononucleosis, rash or peeling on the body with damage to the skin, etc.

Treatment for the Coxsackie virus provides symptomatic relief. In particular, they bring down high temperature antipyretic drugs. For this, infants from the age of two months are given children's paracetamol and ibuprofen. Before using, be sure to consult a doctor.

Tear pain in the mouth can be relieved with teething gel and throat sprays. After each meal, the patient needs to rinse his mouth.

The affected areas on the skin are treated with an antiseptic, and antihistamines are also used. At the same time, doctors advise drinking a lot of water in order to quickly remove toxins from the body and reduce the temperature. The improvement of the condition begins in three to five days, and the rash disappears after a week. The disease disappears within eight to ten days.

There is no vaccine against Coxsackie. Doctors say that the virus needs to get sick. At the same time, children cannot be treated with antibiotics. To avoid contamination, you should practice good personal hygiene and wash your hands frequently. Also, the house must be carefully cleaned and kept clean, and the patient's personal hygiene products must be disposed of immediately after use.

How many people became infected with the Coxsackie virus in 2017

Observers note that the figures for the incidence of enterovirus among Russians are radically different for different departments. Thus, Rospotrebnadzor announced that more than 900 calls were received on its hotline. The truth from the sick and their families - only 500 of them.

The rest were simply interested in consumer protection issues and infection prevention measures. At the same time, observers draw attention to the fact that it remains unclear how many real cases of the Coxsackie virus were out of these 500 letters. After all, the department does not have information that all applicants have a medical certificate confirming their words. The statistics of insurance companies are based on such data.

However, to date, ERV has only information that 81 cases of the disease were recorded in May-June 2017, and in July “ statistics began to improve».

How many Russians can suffer from Coxsackie in Turkey

Now in Turkey, according to various estimates, there are 370-400 thousand tourists from Russia, reports IA "Interfax-Tourism". If we take these data as a basis, it turns out that 36 patients with Coxsackie are 0.009% of all holidaymakers at the moment in Turkey. Travel agents add that the Coxsackie virus occurs in Turkey every summer, but it was this year that it caused such concern of Rostourism and Rospotrebnadzor. This led to a wave of cancellations from previously booked tours. Thus, according to the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare, it received more than 400 complaints from tourists about the refusal of tour operators to return money or rebook a tour. Obviously, the number of cancellations is even greater.
