Cold early pregnancy what to do. Treating colds in early pregnancy

A cold is a very unpleasant disease, and sometimes even dangerous with its unexpected complications. The risk group always includes children, elderly people and women during pregnancy.

In this not always easy period, when a woman is carrying a child, a cold is not just an unwanted disease, but also an insidious enemy that enters the body and complicates the life of not only the expectant mother, but also the baby developing in her.

What is the danger lurking in a common cold for a pregnant woman? How will he cope with it so as not to harm either himself or the fetus? Below you will find the answer to these vital questions.

Why is a cold during early pregnancy dangerous?

In order to minimize the risk of sad consequences, you need to contact your doctor who is treating and leading the pregnancy, so that he prescribes an adequate treatment, according to this provision. The vigilance of the expectant mother in this case, will become useful not only for herself, but also have a positive effect on the child developing inside her womb.

How to treat a cold in early pregnancy?

Medical scientists have long proven that not only bacteria, microbes and viruses, but also those symptoms that manifest themselves through the maternal organism, that is, the state of the expectant mother, can harm the developing fetus. High body temperature, muscle aches, runny nose and other unpleasant symptoms of a cold - all of this together is a serious threat to the development of the child's body and even to the life of this baby.

What should be done to avoid trouble?

  1. Firstly, adherence to bed rest is the first urgent recommendation for a pregnant woman who is attacked by a cold. This will reduce the risk of fetal pathologies during fetal development.
  2. Secondly, it is necessary to minimize the intake of drugs of synthetic origin, and it is better to exclude them altogether. Medicines containing aspirin can cause fetal defects. An alternative to such medicines can be warm teas with raspberry and linden. In extreme cases, when it is not possible to lower body temperature with folk remedies, paracetamol can be used.

Folk remedies are effective for coughs, runny nose and sore throat. In the first trimester of pregnancy, when taking medicinal pharmacological preparations is extremely undesirable, with such manifestations of a cold, you can use herbal decoctions, eucalyptus, rinse your nose with water with sea salt, do inhalation three times a day. To weaken and nullify cold symptoms of these remedies and methods will be quite enough.

Why is a cold in late pregnancy dangerous?

Pregnant colds on later dates does not carry such a great danger as in the early stages, since the vital organs and systems of the child are already formed, and by this time the placenta is already a powerful strong barrier against various negative microorganisms. But, at the same time, there is still a certain percentage of the risk of unpleasant consequences if a cold illness is started and given the opportunity to develop to its full extent. Before giving birth, a mother needs to have strength and health so that this event goes fully and normally.

What can be affected by a cold late in pregnancy? First of all, a cold disease can disrupt the course of the upcoming labor. Secondly, the level of risk of transmitting an infectious virus to a child, that is, infection of a baby during childbirth through the birth canal, increases. And thirdly, fetal hypoxia and placental insufficiency may begin, which will lead to premature contractions and childbirth.

And do not forget that although the risk is small, it still exists, so you need to treat a cold right away, at the very first manifestations.

How to treat a cold in late pregnancy?

It is important to remember that for pregnant women to carry a cold on their feet is extremely dangerous and fraught with very sad consequences. Therefore, at the first symptoms of a cold, it is important to start observing bed rest. This rule applies to any stage of pregnancy.

Pregnancy itself implies a significant restriction in the intake of synthetic pharmacological drugs. Therefore, self-medication and self-appointment in this case should not be. It is best to see a doctor who will prescribe effective drugs taking into account all the individual characteristics of the body and the position of the pregnant woman.

If a pregnant woman is overcome, you can relieve this symptom with the help of expectorant syrups (but, it is important to take a syrup that does not contain codeine), and natural herbal preparations, such as. Teas and decoctions of linden, viburnum, marshmallow root, oregano, licorice root, coltsfoot, chamomile, calendula will be effective in this case.

If you have a severe cold, you can flush the sinuses. saline, bury with drops like Navisin.

Inflammation in the throat is perfectly removed with irrigation soda solution, herbal decoctions, Rotokan or Furacilin.

If these folk methods do not help to reduce the temperature, during pregnancy you can take paracetamol, but this should be done after the doctor's recommendations.

Prevention of colds during pregnancy

From the very beginning of pregnancy, it is important to remember that you are now two, and you need to protect not only your body, but also the body of the baby who has just begun its development. This is the main task of any expectant mother. Therefore, preventing colds during pregnancy is an important aspect that cannot be ignored.

Treatment during this period of even the simplest cold is significantly complicated by the spicy situation: the list of drugs that can be used during pregnancy is very scarce, the immune system significantly reduces its protective actions. It is easier and more reliable to follow the basic rules of prevention than to try to get rid of viruses and infections later. What are these rules?

  1. Before going outside, especially during the epidemic season, you should definitely put on a gauze mask, and then try to avoid large crowds as much as possible, and use public transport less during rush hour.
  2. At home, upon arrival from the street, you need to rinse the sinuses with saline, and gargle with soda solution. All this will help prevent the multiplication of pathogens that have already entered.
  3. Every evening, before going to bed in the bedroom, you need to put onion or garlic grated on a fine grater on a plate, which can neutralize the sleeping space.
  4. You need to monitor the correctness of your diet. The diet should be varied and complete, rich in vitamins (especially vitamin C), and it is important not to forget about the vitamin complexes prescribed by the doctor for pregnant women.
  5. It is important to regularly ventilate the area where the pregnant woman is.
  6. An excellent prevention of a cold during pregnancy is aloe juice, which must be instilled into the nose twice a day. The juice is diluted with clean water in a ratio of one to one.

The defenses of a woman's body during pregnancy are noticeably weakened. This is a natural process that is associated with immunosuppression - the body's ability to suppress its immunity. It is important precisely during this period, since the possibility of embryo rejection as foreign body... On the one hand, this is normal: the body is rebuilt so that a woman can bear a healthy child. But on the other hand, at this time it becomes an easy target for various viruses that threaten the developing fetus.

Should you be afraid of a cold

The first trimester is the most dangerous time in terms of colds... This is the time of the formation of important body systems in the fetus, the main organs: the interference of the virus in this process can disrupt it and cause unpredictable consequences. Catarrhal diseases also affect the functioning of the placenta, and this is fraught with the fact that the fetus will receive less oxygen and suffer from malnutrition.

A cold, harmless to the average person, in a pregnant woman can cause miscarriage and malformations of the unborn child. As you can see, such a condition is very dangerous and at the first manifestations of a cold you cannot hesitate - you need to urgently seek help from a doctor.

The possibility of catching the disease should be minimized: try to be in crowded places as little as possible, feed the body and dress for the weather. But even the most careful precautions cannot guarantee that the disease will not overtake. A family member may bring the virus into the family, or a virus dormant in the body may become active. And once it gets into the body, it begins to actively develop, because a pregnant woman is a favorable environment for it.

How is she treated

A cold during early pregnancy is aggravated by the fact that at this time almost any are contraindicated. medications... Traditional medicine should also be used very carefully, having previously received the approval of a doctor. The doctor may prescribe drugs from a small list of drugs approved for pregnant women. The body is well supported by non-drug preventive measures.

To reduce the temperature, use anti-cold tea with honey and raspberries. It is drunk before bedtime as it has good diaphoretic properties. The drugs allowed during pregnancy include drugs with paracetamol in the composition. When coughing, they drink a decoction of chamomile, and if the throat hurts, they rinse it with a decoction of calendula or a solution of baking soda in water. A blocked nose is treated with instillation of aloe juice and solution sea \u200b\u200bsalt.

Cough treatment

A dry cough brings great discomfort: in order to alleviate the condition, it is necessary to soften the mucous membrane of the larynx and bronchi. To do this, they drink decoctions of herbs: chamomile, sage, linden, plantain. Thus, you can relieve inflammation, soothe irritation. After 3 days of such treatment, the cough will become moist, and sputum discharge will improve. Then you need to take drugs that have an expectorant effect. As such means will fit decoction of lingonberry leaves, snake mountaineer, yarrow, string, eucalyptus. Monitor your condition for a week: if the condition does not improve during this time, consult a doctor to rule out the appearance of pneumonia.

Treat a sore throat

To treat the throat during pregnancy, gargle with warm water is used, to which onion juice or beet juice must be added in equal proportions. The procedure is performed every 2 hours. If there is tonsillitis or pharyngitis in a chronic form, make such a drink: a teaspoon of rosehip syrup, 2 tablespoons. l. kefir and the same amount of beet juice, juice of half a lemon. But drugs from the pharmacy and even lollipops are contraindicated for pregnant women; instead, it is better to use the pulp of aloe or sea buckthorn oil. Just hold a piece of aloe leaf or a teaspoon of oil in your mouth.

The need for vitamins

Vitamins play an important role in our body, and during pregnancy, the need for them increases significantly. But a logical question arises: is it necessary to additionally take vitamins for colds during pregnancy? It all depends on the characteristics of the woman's body: in any case, you cannot arbitrarily increase the dose of vitamins already used as prescribed by the doctor. The doctor may advise taking ascorbic acid to replenish its supply, which decreases during the period of illness, or ascorutin to reduce the likelihood of bleeding and strengthen the walls of blood vessels.

It is very important not to cross the line: hypervitaminosis is a condition that is highly undesirable during pregnancy. An excess of vitamins D and C is fraught with accelerated aging of the placenta, this is especially true in the later stages, and an excess of vitamin A negatively affects the unborn child in the early stages and can lead to malformations. Therefore, a good solution is to consume vegetables, fruits, freshly squeezed juices (except carrot). So vitamins and nutrients will be absorbed by the body in the required quantities and there will be no excess.

Phytomixtures

it folk remedy the treatment of colds has been known for a very long time. In early pregnancy, colds can be treated with horseradish mixed with sugar. The grated horseradish should be mixed with sugar and allowed to stand for 2 hours. This remedy is taken for the first three days - before eating, ½ teaspoon, then a break for three days. Such a medicine will not cause any harm to the body and will significantly improve the state of the immune system.

But alcoholic tinctures of echinacea, ginseng, lemongrass, licorice are not recommended, as they tend to increase blood pressure. The heart of a pregnant woman already works quite actively, additional loads are extremely contraindicated and can only worsen her condition.

Fighting high fever

An increased temperature of a pregnant woman in the early stages can lead to undesirable consequences for the fetus. Therefore, it is necessary to combat this symptom of the common cold. Best of all, in this case, an old proven remedy is suitable - rubbing the body with alcohol or vinegar diluted with water. Immediately after the procedure, do not rush to wrap yourself up - the body temperature will return to normal faster.

Medicinal tea helps to reduce the temperature well. To cook it, take the 2nd table. l. raspberries, three plantain leaves, 2 sprigs of oregano, 4 stalks of coltsfoot grass. You can make an infusion of white willow bark water and take it in the amount of a table. spoons every 4 hours.

For colds during pregnancy, as usual, drink plenty of fluids. If you have not experienced allergic reactions to foods such as honey, raspberries, lemon, then tea with these ingredients will be an excellent remedy. Juices mixed with mineral water, as well as lingonberry and cranberry fruit drinks, cope well with poor health.
Experts recommend this infusion: take sage, lemon balm and rose hips in equal parts. You can add sea buckthorn oil there. During a cold, honey is very useful - it must be absorbed in a teaspoon twice a day. Remember that decoctions from medicinal plants are very powerful remedies, they can cause negative reactions in the body or even harm, endangering pregnancy. Therefore, it is highly undesirable to use them without consulting a doctor.

Yesterday you were happy with the autumn leaves and the greatest discovery: under your heart, let it be a tiny, even if not yet fully formed, but a child! Today, wiping your nose with a napkin, mutter at the gray clouds and worry: "how is he there?" Do you feel sick.

A cold, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy, is an insidious thing. It is not so easy to treat it, being in an "interesting" position. And all due to the fact that pregnant women are contraindicated in a number of drugs used in a "simple" life.

But what is to be done? It is necessary to be treated somehow! Now is the time to call grandma and ask her for a couple folk recipes... But do not forget to also visit a doctor, because self-medication in your position is simply unacceptable!

Medical workers, referring to statistics, argue that the usual acute respiratory disease, as a rule, does not threaten the health of the unborn child. But this does not mean that it does not need to be treated.

Nevertheless, among the "side effects" of colds in early pregnancy are noted: inflammatory processes internal genital organs, difficult childbirth, early withdrawal of amniotic fluid and bleeding, lack of oxygen and many pathologies in a child. If a woman has suffered in the first trimester, the child may be born with damage to the central nervous system. These messages are by no means trying to intimidate and stress you! After all, if you are informed, then you will not allow the disease, otherwise, you will clearly know how to act, and trouble will bypass you. This is confirmed by the many years of experience of mothers who, in the early stages, could not protect themselves from colds, but gave birth to strong babies.

So, first listen to your body and observe what symptoms you have. Runny nose? Fever? Cough?

How to deal with a runny nose, we described in detail in the article "". Here rinsing the nose with a solution based on sea salt, instilling menthol oil, rubbing the temporal lobe "", hot baths for hands will help you.

If your throat hurts, you can rinse it with an infusion of chamomile, sage, calendula, oak bark. Will not harm with the addition of baking soda, as well as menthol, chamomile, eucalyptus oils. You can wrap a warm scarf around your throat and put on woolen socks, with dry mustard previously poured into it. Rinsing and inhalation are allowed.

Immunity in pregnant women, as a rule, is reduced, so colds often go away without fever. At the same time, do not forget that its slight rise in the early stages is normal. You can learn more about this on our website in the material "". If the increase in body temperature is significant, and the doctor is sure that the reason for this is a disease, then measures must be taken. The doctor, knowing about the woman's position, will prescribe sparing medicines, plenty of drink. It is perfectly acceptable to wipe the body with water and a weak vinegar solution.

If you are not sick, but read the information for informational purposes, then it will not hurt you to learn about preventive measuresdisease prevention.

Be sure to walk. At the same time, dress for the weather: both hypothermia and overheating are contraindicated for you. If you are going to a place of large gathering of people (shop, subway, bus, cinema, etc.), lubricate the nasal passages with oxolinic ointment. During seasonal epidemics, try to limit contact with people. If someone from the family is ill, the same "oxolinka" will come to the rescue (but a doctor must prescribe them). It will not hurt to call garlic and onions as allies. Eat them as food. You can also spread it around the apartment on plates, after cutting into cubes. Ventilate the apartment regularly. Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits.

In addition, an excellent immunostimulating agent can be prepared at home. To do this, grate the horseradish root on a fine grater and mix it with sugar in equal proportions. Then set it to infuse for twelve hours. After that, gently strain through cheesecloth and take the resulting juice every hour in a tablespoon.

Remember !!!

  • Not all herbs are good for pregnancy, and some are strictly prohibited.
  • In no case is it allowed!
  • You can not carry out active fortification. Not all vitamins will be useful now.
  • With plenty of drink (for these purposes, warm green tea or tea with milk, rosehip broth is suitable), monitor the volume of the drunk and secreted liquid.
  • Pregnant women are strictly contraindicated in the use of alcoholic tinctures and mixtures.

Especially for - Elena Kichak

The first trimester is the period when internal organs are laid in the unborn child. A cold in the early stages can cause hypoxia, heart or kidney failure, which will make the fetus unviable, and a variety of pathologies. A mother who has learned about a long-awaited pregnancy is advised to dress warmly, avoid large crowds and drink vitamins so as not to get sick. And at the first symptoms of acute respiratory viral infections, run to the doctor and select a treatment.

Rest and no infections

The common cold is a dangerous viral or infectionthat cannot be carried on your feet. A woman's body, exhausted by hormonal changes and toxicosis, needs rest and sick leave. The expectant mother stays at home until the symptoms disappear completely, because public transport, shops and even parks are sources of additional bacteria. Excess microbes worsen well-being and increase the risk of developing defects in a child.

It is undesirable to treat colds with drugs in the early stages. Most medications have a number of side effects and negatively affect an unformed child. Before using herbs and other folk products, a pregnant woman should consult a gynecologist or therapist. A doctor during an exacerbation of influenza and viral infections better to call at home. In the hospital, a pregnant woman may receive an additional dose of viruses, which will lead to complications.

If a visit to the clinic cannot be avoided, the woman puts on a gauze bandage, lubricates the nasal passages with oxolinic ointment and takes a tube of antiseptic gel with her. Wet antibacterial gloves are also fine.

The doctor will tell the pregnant woman what drugs to bring down the temperature if it rises to +38 or more. Some therapists prescribe antibiotics, but powerful medications are used when the cold is complicated. With the usual cough, runny nose and sore throat, such funds are not needed. They only destroy the intestinal microflora, and it is in this organ that immune cells are located.

A pregnant woman limits communication with other family members. Husband and older children who go to kindergarten or school can be potential carriers of viruses. While a woman is sick, family members follow several rules:

  1. No noise. A good eight or nine hours of sleep speeds up recovery.
  2. They cook, wash the dishes, clean up and bathe on their own. The less a woman works, the more energy remains in the body to fight viruses.
  3. They do not upset the expectant mother and do not quarrel with her. Stress weakens the immune system, increasing the risk of complications and miscarriage.
  4. Shoes, hands and face are washed after each walk. Germs accumulate on outerwear and exposed skin. To prevent them from entering the apartment, you need to follow the rules of hygiene.

A pregnant woman sleeps not only at night, but also in the afternoon. The body recovers during rest. With a cold, do not strain your eyes by reading books or working on a laptop. It is allowed to watch TV, but not for long. A cold goes away faster if the expectant mother eats right, drinks a lot of fluids and does not overwork.

Thermal treatments

With symptoms of acute respiratory viral infections in the early stages, you should not freeze. The temperature in the house is maintained from +20 to + 22-24 degrees. The air is constantly humidified, and the rooms are periodically ventilated. Oxygen reduces the concentration of microbes in rooms. It is harder for the body to fight viruses if the apartment is stuffy and hot.

Pregnant women are advised to wear woolen or thick terry socks, pajamas with long sleeves and trousers, but wrapping up in several blankets is contraindicated. Overheating in the body accelerates blood circulation, and uterine tone may develop, leading to miscarriage.

With a cold, it is useful to warm up the maxillary sinuses with boiled eggs or fabric bags with hot salt. Potato and soda inhalations are allowed, with herbal decoctions or essential oils. The procedure with aromatic additives is carried out if the pregnant woman is not allergic to the components.

Herbal decoctions for warming the nose are prepared from medicinal plants:

  • oak bark;
  • calendula;
  • sage;
  • eucalyptus;
  • chamomile;
  • birch buds;
  • strawberry or currant leaves.

Weak aqueous herbal tinctures are used to gargle with perspiration and pus. You can prepare a decoction of chamomile and sage by mixing 1 tbsp. l of the component with 500 ml of water, and then divide natural medicine into two parts. The first is poured into a cup and cooled. The tonsils and nasal passages are washed with warm infusion. Cover the second portion with a blank paper cap while hot. Warm vapor is gently inhaled through the nose or mouth.

In a similar way, inhalation with essential oils is carried out. Dissolve 5–6 drops of the additive in a bowl of hot water. Insist for 3 minutes, and then inhale the ethereal vapor. Rosehip, eucalyptus or thyme oil is suitable for pregnant women.

When carrying out inhalations, it is better not to cover yourself with a towel. Too humid and hot air leads to a lack of oxygen, dizziness and fetal hypoxia. The procedure is stopped for any uncomfortable or strange sensations.

A cold in the early stages is not treated with mustard plasters, cans, alcohol compresses or foot baths. The maximum is a warm shower, which will temporarily remove the swelling of the nasal mucosa and facilitate breathing.

Preparations: Do's and Don'ts

In the first trimester, the temperature is considered normal in the range of 37-37.2 degrees. Fever for colds is not knocked down until the thermometer shows more than 38–38.5. The temperature is reduced by drinking plenty of water: black or green tea with lemon, viburnum or cranberry juice, water. You cannot consume more than 2 liters of liquid per day. Water stagnates in soft tissues, provoking edema and gestosis.

In case of heat, bandages soaked in water are applied to the wrists and forehead. vinegar solution... If all else fails, take medications with paracetamol. Instead of pills, they buy syrups or suppositories that work softer.

Allowed antipyretic drugs include:

  • Paracet;
  • Tylenol;
  • Efferalgan;
  • Panadol.

Runny nose and swelling of the mucous membrane are removed with drops with vasoconstrictor properties: "Sanorin", "Naphthyzin" or "Otrivin". In the early stages, pregnant women are prescribed "Pinosol". The drug is expensive, but safe and effective. Vasoconstrictor drops use up to 4 times a day, but not longer than 3 days. When abused, they impair circulation and lead to oxygen starvation of the fetus.

With a runny nose, the nasal passages are washed with seawater-based sprays. They moisturize mucous membranes, soften and soothe inflammation. Aquamaris and Humer will do. Sprays are replaced with inexpensive saline. The drug consists of purified water and salt, therefore it does not harm the child.
Sore throat removes "Faringosept", "Lizobakt", "Stopangin".

Immunomodulators and antipyretics with acetylsalicylic acid contraindicated. The former cause arrhythmia and hypertension. The latter thin the blood, increasing the risk of placental rejection and miscarriage. Preparations "Biseptol" and "Bactrim" provoke the development of the cleft palate. Indomethacin is the cause of pulmonary hypertension and embryo rejection, and Citramon causes uterine bleeding. Also prohibited are alcoholic tinctures of echinacea, eucalyptus, calendula and other plants. Do not gargle or rinse your nose with herbal remedies.

A specialist should select remedies for colds. Any pill taken by a woman without the permission of a doctor can cause pathologies or death of the fetus.

Diet for colds

The immune cells responsible for killing viruses are produced in the intestines. The task of the pregnant woman is to restore the microflora of this organ and start the production of leukocytes. The body during a cold is not able to digest heavy food. The expectant mother, until she recovers, removes sausage, butter, pork and lamb, smoked meats, bacon and ham, fried potatoes and fast food from the diet.

Marinades and foods with a lot of salt retain fluid in the body. Swelling creates additional stress on the kidneys and heart of the pregnant woman. Pickles and tomatoes, canned mushrooms, crackers, herring and dried fish disappear from the menu.

A balanced and healthy diet includes:

  • vegetable soups;
  • slimy porridge;
  • steamed or boiled chicken meat;
  • baked sea fish;
  • fresh vegetable and fruit salads;
  • berry jelly;
  • fermented milk drinks;
  • cottage cheese.

Pregnant women who are not allergic to citrus should eat oranges, grapefruits, and tangerines. Exotic sources of vitamin C are replaced with a decoction of rose hips. There is a lot of ascorbic acid in red berries, but in order for it to be preserved, the workpiece is poured with hot water and insisted. You cannot boil a rosehip broth.

Cold symptoms are relieved by warm milk with honey and soda. Butter is added to the drink for perspiration and coughing, badger or fish oil can be used. Honey is a universal remedy for the common cold, sore throat and bronchitis, but the bee product should not be abused during pregnancy. Eat up to 60 g of natural sweetener per day so as not to provoke allergies.

Honey is dissolved in herbal decoctions and fruit drinks. A vitamin dessert is prepared from a bee product and crushed lemon. Citrus medicine is prohibited for women with gastritis, heartburn, or ulcers.

Herbal recipes

Healing plants help to strengthen immunity and eliminate cold symptoms in the early stages:

  1. Linden flower tea is drunk at elevated temperature and chills. Mix in equal proportions with elderberry inflorescences, measure 1 tbsp. l. tea leaves and add a cup of boiling water.
  2. Sage broth gargle with perspiration to prevent sore throat. Combine 30 g of chopped herbs with a glass of hot water. The filtered medicine is cooled to room temperature. The infusion is not taken internally, it affects the hormonal background of the pregnant woman and leads to the death of the embryo.
  3. Raspberry tea strengthens the immune system, accelerating recovery. The leaves and twigs of the plant are not used, only dried or fresh berries. The product is mixed with rose hips and currants. Take 1 tbsp. l. berries, brew 0.5 liters of boiling water. 35 ml of honey is added to this drink. All 500 ml of medicine is drunk per day.
  4. A cough, even dry and barking, is treated with coltsfoot leaves. The plant does not affect the development of the fetus and has no contraindications. A pinch of herbs is mixed with a cup of water, heated on a stove or water bath. Insist in warmth for half an hour, drink with or without honey.
  5. An infusion of 12 dates and 500 ml of water is useful. Dried fruits are boiled for 30 minutes. The fruits are eaten, and the tea is divided into 2-3 servings and drunk with severe coughing fits.

Pregnant women often experience cold symptoms in the first trimester. But more than 80% of mothers who have had ARVI give birth to healthy and strong children. The main thing is to follow all the instructions of the gynecologist, eat right and not worry. And then the cold will pass quickly and will not harm the child.

Video: flu and colds during pregnancy

A high fever for a cold in early pregnancy should be alarming, like other symptoms. Of course, it is better to take care of yourself from such diseases while carrying a baby, but if you really had to get infected (there is no guaranteed protection against this), you need to go to the doctor as soon as possible, tell him about the main symptoms, undergo examinations for an accurate diagnosis and start, without delay, the correct treatment.

Fever in early pregnancy should be alarming

Colds in the first weeks of pregnancy are not just undesirable, but an extremely dangerous factor. It is at this time that the fetus is formed, and therefore there is a possibility that the disease will interfere with development and will not do without consequences. Even treating ARVI in women in this position is not necessary as usual, but with greater caution and taking only those drugs that are prescribed by a qualified doctor.

A pregnant woman, no matter how hard she tries to protect herself from viruses and bacteria, often becomes infected anyway, since her immunity is weakened (as nature provides, so that the immune system does not mistake the developing fetus for a foreign organism and does not reject it). In medical language, this is immunosuppression (when the body forcibly extinguishes its own activity). Accordingly, the most favorable conditions are created for the development of pathogenic microorganisms.

Perhaps the worst consequence of a cold can be a miscarriage. But no expectant mother would want to face other complications either: the infection can damage the forming organs of the baby, complicate the course of pregnancy and subsequent childbirth.

But you can't make a diagnosis yourself - just go to a doctor. And the appointment of the wrong treatment can be even more dangerous step than its absence: even an incorrectly prescribed herbal medicine sometimes causes irreparable harm to health instead of curing.

Folk remedies

As for folk remedies that can still be used along with the drugs prescribed by a doctor, some of them should be listed:

  • The juice of grated horseradish is mixed with granulated sugar, after which it is aged for a couple of hours. Drink before meals with three-day breaks. Side effects from this procedure you can not be afraid. But immunity will be strengthened and the body's resistance to viral agents increases.
  • With headaches, which are one of the symptoms of colds, pregnant women can cope with the help of decoctions. Chamomile and eucalyptus are especially beneficial for treatment.
  • Throat pains are relieved with a soda solution. A teaspoon is enough for a 250 ml glass. It would be nice to add a little iodine to the resulting solution. But you can't gargle more than three times a day.
  • Herbal teas help with a strained cough. For example, you can mix coltsfoot, currant leaves, and plantain. All this is poured with boiling water and, once infused, is used.

But tinctures made with alcohol are undesirable to use for the treatment of colds, since they increase blood pressure and increase cardiovascular load. For the body of the expectant mother and, moreover, for her child, this can be very harmful. This, for example, creates the foundation for future heart disease.

Do's and Don'ts

Pregnant women should also know about the prevention of ARVI in the first trimester:

  • reduce the number of exits to the street;
  • do not contact with infected people;
  • consume vitamins and eat well;
  • get more rest and not overwork.

Eat vitamins and you will be healthy!

Many people ask: is there a need for additional intake of vitamins, in addition to what you can get with food?

It is difficult to give an unambiguous answer to such a question. This, not least, is influenced by the characteristics of the disease, as well as the duration of pregnancy.

One way or another, it is better to consult with a medical specialist: perhaps he will prescribe exactly those vitamins that you are currently lacking. It can be Ascorbic acid, which compensates for the lack of vitamin C, or Ascorutin, which strengthens the vascular walls and reduces the likelihood of bleeding.

The body of a pregnant woman should receive vital substances that it has lost due to the disease, but there should not be hypervitaminosis either. For example, an excess of vitamin A can cause heart defects in a child, and too much C, D will lead to aging of the placenta.

But fresh vegetables with fruits, and - in addition - freshly squeezed juices, you can safely use with the exception of juice from carrots.

In no case should pregnant women resort to thermal procedures, such as hot baths, in which salt and herbal tinctures are added, and steaming feet. Otherwise, there is a serious risk of provoking the uterus to a sudden termination of pregnancy (as an option - the beginning of early birth).

It is undesirable for blood to flow to the legs and swelling appears - this will lead to torment for the baby, who will lack oxygen when blood flows from the placenta.

But steaming your hands in hot water is very beneficial because it helps cure a runny nose and soothe throat pains. Dry heat also turns out to be harmless: dress in warm pajamas, wool socks and a scarf, and then go to a warm bed as soon as possible. Insocks are put in insoles, which are cut from mustard plasters or dry mustard are poured there.

We treat a runny nose

When you need to treat a runny nose, which creates significant discomfort for the baby (depriving him of a sufficient amount of oxygen), along with the medications prescribed by the doctor, you can use these methods.

By the way, the body of a future mother gets rid of mucus during a cold and, accordingly, loses a lot of fluid. Compensate for this with plenty of drinking.

It is better to use an additional pillow for sleep - this will help avoid swelling and inflammation of the mucous membrane. Breathing will be easier. If the nose is very stuffy, massage the areas of the face near the nostrils.

It becomes easier from the use of the famous Asterisk balm, which is applied to the temples or the bridge of the nose several times a day.

Herbal infusions help to prevent and help in the treatment of sinusitis: for example, you can mix strawberries, plantain, and St. John's wort - pour boiling water over this mixture, let it brew for half an hour and take three times a day.

Inhalation is also allowed, but not too long: no more than five minutes for each procedure. For this, herbal infusions (from St. John's wort, oak bark, sage, viburnum, pine buds) are well suited.

You can put apple or carrot juice in your nose.

Against temperature rise

And in order to get rid of a high temperature with a cold in the early stages of pregnancy, it is necessary, first of all, to warm up well:

  • covered with a blanket;
  • drinking hot tea;
  • using a heating pad (which can be applied to the lower limbs or palms).

The body can be rubbed with 3% vinegar (it is previously diluted with water). No need to wrap yourself up after that.

Cover yourself with a warm blanket and keep warm

And here is a recipe for herbal tea to help relieve fever:

  • raspberries - a couple of spoons;
  • mother-and-stepmother - four leaves;
  • oregano - two pieces;
  • plantain - three leaves.

Alternatively, you can drink a tincture made from white willow bark.

Fighting cough

When a dry cough has just appeared, funds will help that soften the bronchi and soothe the inflammatory processes in the bronchi. These are decoctions, for the manufacture of which chamomile, sage, and plantain are used. Thanks to them, it will be possible to relieve irritation of the mucous membrane and stop the inflammatory process.

The cough becomes moist, and a gradual release of phlegm begins. In this case, decoctions that have an expectorant and drying effect will help. These can be decoctions, for the manufacture of which lingonberry leaves, wild rosemary, yarrow, snake knotweed are used.

But - attention! - if you are taking all necessary measures, and the cough lasts longer than a week, be sure to consult a qualified medical professional!

Sore throat

What to do when a pregnant woman has a sore throat in the first trimester? To get rid of these uncomfortable sensations, you can gargle with warm water, to which beet or onion juice is added. Moreover, rinsing procedures are carried out every couple of hours.

If chronic pharyngitis is diagnosed, use the following drink:

  • rosehip syrup - one teaspoon is enough;
  • kefir - a couple of st. spoons;
  • lemon juice (squeezed from half a lemon).

The same infusion helps with chronic tonsillitis.

Gargling with beetroot juice can help relieve throat pain

But the use of pharmacy tablets and lozenges, which are aimed at reducing throat pain, is not always allowed for pregnant women. In any case, check with your doctor before taking this or that drug of this kind. Sea buckthorn oil or an aloe leaf will be an excellent substitute for such medicines: you just keep them in oral cavity for a while. It may not seem very pleasant to your taste, but it works very effectively and safely.

Don't forget about the danger of colds!

We should not forget about the serious danger of the most common, seemingly, colds in early pregnancy. The insidiousness of acute respiratory viral infections lies in their unpredictability and in the possibility of complications.

A cold threatens not only a woman's health, but also the health (and even life!) Of a baby, whose body is just beginning to form.

The development of the fetus can be interrupted due to illness by abnormal processes, especially since it is at this time that the main systems of the child's life are formed, the cells multiply at lightning speed.

Even after having a cold with high temperature managed to recover, the normal functioning of the placenta in a pregnant woman may be disrupted, as a result of which the fetus will not be able to receive a sufficient amount of nutrition. This can affect the health of the baby's heart organ, the state of his developing liver and even the brain.

At the first suspicion of a cold, see your doctor

What should a pregnant woman do? How can you avoid such troubles? Just remember: you need to consult a qualified doctor in a timely manner - already when the initial signs of a cold appear - to find out the diagnosis and start appropriate treatment.
